Are Skinnies the Perfect Jeans?

'Skinnies' was the overwhelming answer from most of you, when asked about your favourite trouser shape. When I first saw them a few years ago I found them terribly unforgiving; but (like most fashions) they’ve grown on me. (Now I’m struggling with the leggings trend.)

In the midst of skinnies and leggings the jeggings were born, which theoretically should be the perfect combination of leggings comfort and jeans look. I loved the idea, but when I tried them on they looked really weird on me. Skinnies, leggings or jeggings… Are they for you?

I am completely the same - when skinny jeans first became popular I was horrified. But they have grown on me so much, and I adore them - I have several pairs now. Don't know about jeggings, though... :-/

I've become a big fan of the skinny jean over time - despite my pear-shape! I find that if you get the skinny jeans with a bit of stretch, they're so comfy yet polished at the same time. I started experimenting with leggings last year, but I'm not sure if I'm an avid fan just yet. I still don't like the looks of leggings as pants. If I do wear it, it is always with a tunic or dress.

I absolutely adore blue and green together. And I'm all about skinny or skinny boot (which I found at Delias) jeans. I wish I could get into leggings. I just feel like it's a young trend and I'm too old to wear them. I do own a pair though! And they hang out in my dresser. Haha

I agree. It's strange because I see girls walking around in leggings and a t-shirt and I think: This looks great. But somehow I think I would feel naked.

Like most everything else, I think you should wear skinnies if they look good on you. They don't look good on me, but I give props to other people who can wear them. I just try to flatter my body when I dress -- that's the best place to start.

I like the look...on girls who don't have my butt :)

It's funny you ask. I bought two pairs of jeggings last week and am ABSOLUTELY LOVING THEM. They're comfortable, super flattering, fit perfectly, look good under long tops. And thoroughly modern. I love them! (Oasis was where my little treasures came from.)

Hi Denisa - Don't know what happened... But it wasn't me who deleted your comment. Strange, this has happened before. But feel free, just say it again!

Caroline - Maybe I have to give jeggings another chance.

i hated skinny jeans a few years ago, but i agree: they've really grown on me. i must say that i still prefer a nice bootcut with my sneakers, but i love skinnies with boots and heels. i love the style in that photo though.

I like all three of them. The jeggings has to have a lot of stretch though. I got a pair from Esprit where there was too little stretch, and that didn't look good around the knee area. Way too bulky.

However, I would NEVER wear leggings as pants. There are areas on the body where one would rather not attract attention to, as witnessed here. Granted, what she's wearing is shiny, but still:

I love them all... skinnies are my fave cut of jeans. I love leggings too. And when jeggings came out, I welcomed it with open arms.

Have a great week ahead! xoxo

Sniff, I'm so bad, I had to check it out immediately... I agree: Not good.

I bought my first pair of skinnies this week! I'm still not completely sold, although I hopped on the leggings trend a while ago. I haven't even taken the jeans out of the bag.

nice shirt honey. i like skinnies, i also like other shapes like the wide leg and the boyfriend relaxed cut.

I like skinny jeans for their versatility.

Oh I used to think skinny jeans and leggings were horrible! But they just needed some getting used to, now I can't live without them:)

Skinnies were a tough thing for me too but they've grown on me. I live in leggins though...they're much more forgiving for me and comfy. And I have a great pair of jeggins from H&M that I love. I hardly wear jeans anymore!

Sorry you've had a rough start to the week. We moved our clocks ahead a few weeks ago and it was hard...i feel your pain! :)

I prefer skinnies, just because I feel fat in anything else! You look cute!

I guess it depends on a girl's shape and height. I too have tried on wet looks leggings and thought "no no no !" and there are some where I swear you have to be 5'11 to pull them off..LOL. I tried on a pair and looked like a Shar Pei ^_^ But I am glad these jeggins, etc are here now seeing as other than jeans, I don't think a lot of people like wearing proper trousers. It's all about comfort and wearing pants that can be both casual and formal depending on what you wear them with.

Every pair of jeggins I've tried on end up looking so cheap. I can't get past it. I'll stick with my skinnies.

Love Grace.

Sorry Juliet, I think blogspot is experiencing problems. The comments aren't appearing either, but I get them as emails :-(

Ummmm...in my opinion, yes! Skinnies, leggings...I love the way that they really show off your shape. Looser fits oftentimes swallow the wearer's body whole; skinnies provide a stunning silhouette!! :)

drollgirl said...

you look rad!

i am afraid of skinny jeans. i think they look fab on so many folks, but my body type most likely won't look good in them. i should try them. i should. i might. ugh. if they look horrid, i can always just rip them off. i mean TAKE THEM OFF. not steal them.

For me, skinnies are definitely the most flattering and suitable as I have legs like matchsticks and baggy jeans tend to make me look like a recovering anorexic!

I do love my jeggings too, though I do dislike the whole camel toe concept very much. That said, skinnies alllll the way!

Skinnies are fantastic on certain figures. But I also love those sleek trouser jeans. I have yet to find the perfect pair

I agree that skinny jeans can be unforgiving. I once saw a woman with her love handles all over the place and was literally grossed out.

it took me a couple years to ease into the skinny trend — now i realize i don't know what i ever did without them! definitely resisting the jeggings trend but maybe they'll have the same effect.

love jeggings/leggings... as long as i have some sort of tunic. other than that, i am a shorts-type of girl.

also, love the color combo in the first pic. it's just so vibrant!

The Zhush said...

I feel the exact same way as you, almost word for word, EXCEPT, I would say you should keep on trying the jeggings until you get a great pair! Go for one more like a jean, less like a legging...you will love. J Brand has some great ones. Good luck.

I love skinny jeans but jeggings are not a trend that I have taken to (at least not yet). I love this outfit because the colours look so good together.

I think it depends on the whole outfit, the look you are attempting to create. I love all jeans shapes - its how you were them!

I'm still scared of jeggings, but I just need to go try them on! I already love leggings, but the top choice becomes CRUCIAL with these.

I love skinnies, but I also really like a wide-leg trouser jean. I'm currently in the market for one!

I really like skinny jeans, though I have to wear them carefully otherwise my hips would look too wide ^^

I prefer the term "slim" jeans to skinny jeans. Skinny jeans look really unflattering on me, I hate things that are tight around the knee. So "jeggings" are not for me. I just bought a pair of thick-knit leggings/pants, but the way I wear them they wouldn't even be visible. I bought them to wear specifically with trenches and thigh high boots.
