Bare Essentials

The Inuit might have 60 names for snow, but we will need about as many names for off-white and light brown soon. Beige, nude, camel, sand, caramel, dirty snow… You might come up with more names because one thing’s for sure: It's the new 'It Colour'! After the autumn/winter shows of Chloe, Valentino, Celine and Stella McCartney no one was left in doubt that next winter you can choose from the widest range of a very basic hue.

I might have taken it a bit far with the blandness in this outfit, but it raises the question if beige is oh-so-elegant, grown-up and wearable or just plain boring and uninventive? Since the shops will probably only start to be flooded by camel and co. at the end of summer I still have a bit more time to delve into the possibilities of wearing beige without looking like a total wash-out.

What's your opinion? Is camel an absolute essential or just too bland for you?

Denitely an essential!
and I love the way you wear it, not bland at all, and this because of the play on texture and floral, it works beautifully. I'd wear beige like I would black, with touches of color... something that resonates really well with me right now is beige and pink! Saw it on the likes Susy Bubble and find it something I could definitely try.
Lovely photo as always,
xo

As i almost all the time have the tendency to choose simple colours, like the basics, i believe is an essential. Then it depends on the way you mach it in any outfit. It can be boring, or it can be wonderful ^^ You look very feminine, elegant and pretty in that outfit.

I look dreadful in beige (or any neutral tone) but you pull it off beautifully.
Love that pretty blouse on you.
Definately a "trend" I'll be steering clear of.

Thanks! Yes, Sharon Rose, I found the blouse on a market in Arezzo, Italy last year. It's beautiful silk and I think it's self-made. I really love it.

I am so not over the nudes yet. They can become very rock and roll if you add the right color. An orangy-red, or an acid yellow, mmm. But maybe we will all look back one day and wonder what we were thinking? :-)

There's nothing bland or uninventine about the way you're sporting the nude colors. You used prints, varying textures and different shades of the color! I think you made look fab and fun!

I find this colour palette quite hard to wear - with pale skin and hair, it really washes me out. Nudes, blush tones and creams with a pinky base work much better for me. I think you look fab here, Sabine - classic and in no way boring!

I just came across your blog and I have to say it's amazing! Going to follow you.
Nice pictures with the antlers.

I love it! For me it's unexpected if done in mass quantities. I don't know, I just love nude shoes especially.

Aw well you look lovely and elegant!
And I think when it comes to the basic color, it all depends on cut and details. A nude dress with a row of bows on the back is not just a plain nude dress. I think changing textures, etc keeps nude the fascinating color its become.

Wow you look so elegant. I love the way you used patterns and details. This is a great look. Nude is great on you.

absolute essential, though it is important to identify shades of this color that make you look washed out otherwise its a disaster.

apparellel said...

good question. i am having an ultra hard time getting into it. just because it does seem bland, but ultimately because it washes me out. i have fallen for some nude pieces of course, but will not be doing the all nude trend for spring.

on the other hand the colors look beautiful on you! and i love the antlers!!

Beige, nude, camel, whatever you call it, it's absolutely essential and I've fallen in love with the color (or lack of)!

And you of course look amazing as usual:)

Oh, so pretty and feminine, Sabine. It looks good on you, and certainly does not wash you out. I wear a lot of beige, come to think of it.

I think your outfit is very classy and lovely. Sometimes camel is the perfect color to wear when you want to be light and fresh for the day. :)

I love camel/beige/greige etc etc and recently resurrected a 10 year old camel coat that cost me an arm and a leg back when I was a student. So can only say that am thrilled it's coming back as can finally get my money's worth! I agree that it can feel slightly insipid though so ways of injecting colour can be a way of lifting it. I think your look is far from bland. All of the subtle textures and patterns make this one of the most interesting looks because it's not encumbered with bright colors.

Caramel is essential to me. You've added just the right amount of contrast and colour with your patterned blouse. And antlers always make the outfit. Just think of Topshop Unique!
