Be Shy. Be Bold. Just Be.

Psynopsis Kate Moss by Corinne Day Be Shy. Be Bold. Just Be.
Can any of you remember when Kate Moss first appeared in the spotlight? I can! The photographs by Corinne Day of her 15-year-old self hit me like a rock*. After all the glamorous, female beauty of Claudia, Naomi and Co. she was like a breath of fresh air – bold and androgynous. I remember thinking: This is so cool! I also found the whole change from broad shoulders and bonbon colours to unadorned minimalism super exciting.

So it was quite thrilling to see this Calvin Klein ad in one of my old Vogues. It might be our post-recession mood, but one of the major trends in the a/w shows were the early 90s - Calvin Klein, Bottega Veneta, Lanvin, Martin Margiela, not to forget Céline and Chloe, all showed clean silhouettes without much adornment.

I'm so ready for 90s minimalism again. What about you?

*This one is not taken by her. I think these Calvin Klein ads were photographed by Stacey McKenzie.

Excellent post, Sabine, "Don't be shy be bold" indeed! Love that image of Kate Moss; girlish, playful on the edge of fragile.
In fact I prefer clean silhouettes: It is also a sign of good breeding, there I go again speaking in "Riding" language. LOL!

Yes! to riding boots - and good breeding ;-)

Mmmh so to be Honest I really don't used to be Fan of the young Kate Moss photograped by Mario Sorrenti for "Calvin Klein" . . . even if I have seen Stunning early 90's pictures of the Iconic "neo Twiggy" !!!

I guess with the recession and everything we have a lot in common with the early 90s - minimalism sounds like a good idea to me!

Oh yes, the beauty of Kate is just timeless! I missed out on the 90s minimalism the first time, so I hope to get on board when it comes around again:)

Oh yes! I think I'm a minimalist at heart. I've always been attracted to clean lines and silhouettes and I remember being in love with the simplicity and sexiness of the CK ads back in the 90's! I mean...who didn't want to have that "I look hot without even trying" look back in the day :) I'm so ready for it to make a comeback!

Being a minimalist at heart, I guess I will embrace the autumn trends when that season get here. But after this long, cold winter (which won't let go, it snowed in Oslo today) I'm all for super pretty florals and fresh colors right now, and won't think of fall until I have to. There will be absolutely no buying of any fall clothes until August is over!

I remember that shot so well ..... and it,s still so timeless. I love what Celine are doing at the moment.... lovely post.

Thank you, Mandy.

Stilettostetico - Do you think it's a Mario Sorrenti photograph? I thought so, too, but according to my research this one was taken by Stacey McKenzie. It's weird, I could not find 1 copy of this picture on the net. (wich makes it even nicer to have)

Kate Moss is so naturally beautiful. She is like Mother Earth, a combination of fire and ice. I love that you've posted this photo of her right now before the celebration of Earth Day.

It's always so much fun looking at famous peoples' past pictures. She has changed so much since then (in a good way). Nice post!

With you on that. Some of my favourite catwalk images from the Fashion Week shows in Feb were of the more sleeker, unfussy looks. That photo of Kate Moss is one of my favourites - makes me want to go out and buy some CK One again! x

The underlying message of this post resonates deeply with me, for I've been an intensely shy person my whole life. Over the past couple of years in particle though, I've conscientiously tried to force myself to be more open, less tentative. It's not easy, but I believe doing so is helping me on many levels.

Thank you dearly for your lovely visits and comments, sweet soul, I appreciate them very much!

Yesssssssssssss, chic minimalism is definitely the way to go. I've actually found myself taking a liking to plain tees and jeans and simple clean cut dresses at the moment. Whilst details can be pretty and very intriguing, they don't match up to the whole effortless look.

As for Kate Moss, whilst I'm not a fan of her nowadays I am impressed by how her face has shaped and changed the fashion industry. This old CK photo is brilliant.

Minimalism is really good, especially these days where everything is over sexualized and complicated, people tend to over think what they would wear to be like this or that.It could be cool to go back to those more simple and minimalistic look
