Gentle Does It

It always feels a bit silly to follow the hype and I had already read so much about this new magazine that I wasn’t too keen on buying it, but when cover girl Phoebe Philo looked at me sternly from the shelves I couldn’t leave her there. The ladies’ version of the 'Fantastic Man' wants to introduce us to 'a new decade of inspirational, international women', like Céline’s new creative director, winemaker Sarah Pérez, artist Jenny Holzer or architect Kazuyo Sejima. According to the editors it’s not about celebrities, but about women who do things in their life. It also features beautiful, mainly b/w fashion photography. After having spent an hour with the Gentlewoman I thought it was the most inspirational magazine I had looked at in ages. Shame it’s only biannual.

Have you discovered an interesting magazine lately? Or with blogging and the internet, do you read any magazines at all?

I haven't really come across any new, interesting magazines off late. But then again, between work and blogging, I hardly have any time left.

Oh, that looks like such a fantastic magazine, Sabine! I haven't discovered any new magazines lately - just the same old, same old. Though you've inspired me to keep my eyes peeled for new finds!! :)

I've never read this one but I do read magazines everyday on the treadmill. It makes me feel sane.

I've never heard of this mag, which is actually rather surprising -- I hope to work in magazines some day and subscribe to 12! I have a massive stack to read... I've been so busy!

This looks so interesting! I adore magazines. At one point I bought about four a week! I must restrain myself these days.

Looks like such a great magazine, I haven't bought any British magazines for ages.

As for new magazines, I just read a new Norwegian one called Vixen. It was OK I guess, but I don't think I would have bought it. Interviews with models (unless it's Gisele Bundchen) isn't really that interesting. I got a free copy as an introduction, don't know where.

My usual faves are Vouge (the British and US editions are the easiest ones to get hold of here, very few carry other editions), InStyle (US and UK) and the Norwegian and UK editions of Elle.

No one for Harpers Bazaar? Since their revamp about 2 years ago I find it has become quite an interesting magazine again.

@ Lis-x - Yes, it is. I got it in a normal newspaper shop in London, but I'm sure one can order it, too. Just click on the link to their website.

I actually don't read magazines. I prefer to take my inspiration from blogs, the ideas and looks are way more applicable and varied.

I am the same as Rosie, I don't read magazines. I am a blog reader girl through and through. HOWEVER, i think the title of this mag is A-mazing!!

This magazine looks lovely -- thanks so much for sharing! I haven't seen it before, but I'm definitely interested now. I adore reading blogs, but I still enjoy the feel of paper, the craftsmanship of magazines. I used to purchase more, but now order about 3 per month. I treasure them so...

Thank you also, so much, for your lovely comment the other day. I'm so happy to have found your blog through your comment!
