Land of the Beautiful Reptile

Psynopsis Alexander McQueen Shopping Window Bond Street London

Psynopsis Ernst Haeckel Kunstformen der Natur

Psynopsis Lizard Print Collage
Last week I went on a serious spree of 'window licking' in London with lovely Haute World who is a true fashion and shopping expert. We worked our way trough the Liberty for Target collection (lovely, but slightly too flowery for my taste), swooned over Rick Owens’ leather jackets (she’s got one, lucky girl) nearly fainted when checking the price tag for Balmain’s slashed t-shirts (prices of designer t-shirts - I really have to write about this!) and examined the clever stitching in the Vivienne Westwood shop. Dover Street Market seduced us with its usual beautiful chaos of Comme de Garcons and other designers, including a long row of very clean and crisp Céline clothes (which I find look better on the runway than in real life).
In the end we went to fashion heaven: The Alexander McQueen flagship store. It starts with the shopping window and just gets better and better. There might be an online shop, but nothing beats the opportunity to touch and feel his designs.*

Honestly, I don’t need
3 pieces, all I want is an Alexander McQueen dress.**
*There are no pictures of him or any other references to his death, and personally I’m happy they are keeping it as a normal shop and not making it a shrine. Just walking through his designs feels like a temple to me.

**Love the butterfly designs, too. Sadly my favourite dress is £2845.-.

Sabine, I wish I could walk in your shoes!:-) It sounds lie an amazing day.I have never been to Alexander McQueen flagship in London and I can only imagine what a truly spectacular experience this is. When it comes to reptiles, I have to be honest, I love looking at reptile inired designes but I would never wear one. Maybe I somehow feel that it will grow all its teeth back while I am wearing it.:-)))) I am hoping you are having a wonderful week, darling Sabine :-)

totally agree, there's no need to make any reference to his death. liked what you said: just walking through his designs feels like a temple...

Ahh, your pictures turned out fantastic! I might have to refer my readers to this because I'm sure mine will be very much inferior ;-)

Sadly I can't afford any of the dresses either. Maybe I'll have to settle on a digital print scarf... when it goes on sale...

I love this blog! The snake skin is really cool. I bought a pair of snake skin pumps really recently and have been working to do a shoot around them. You are super lucky to have seen Alexander McQueens work, I hope you took alot of pictures!

CMA - I'm not very experienced in wearing reptile, either. But isn't it amazing that they even gave the model a lizard/snake skin?

Haute World - well, you are person of content, I just like to put a gloss on things ;-)

Tati - I didn't dare to take pictures inside. I think they would have stopped me.

Noelle Chantal - $1?!?!? Were you one of the few luckies in the Outnet sale?

OMG I love this. I passed the shop the other day and it took all my strength to rear myself away. Thank you for sharing it again. Xxx

Oh, I feel the same way about designer t shirts!

That's cool that everything is the same in his store. They don't need to plaster his face everywhere.

I totally agree that there is just something special about going into an actual shop and feeling the weight of the fabric, seeing how an item drapes... I could go on but you probably don't want me to :)

Uh, window licking, very nice expression. I am starting to get annoyed when places like net a porter only has extremely pricey items. WTF? Not inspiring, just plain annoying. But getting a rush from window licking I get. And regarding the Liberty stuff, they should keep the design minimal, otherwise it gets too cutesie too fast.

I could only imagine the awesomeness of the look and feel of his clothings in person! The few luxury stores I've visited, I always feel so awkward and out of place, that's why I do most of shopping online :) *sigh* But I'm glad you had a wonderful day out and about in London! We have so many amazing stores in NYC too, I just never had the guts to walk inside! lol!

I have one pair of McQueen trousers purchased 15 years ago before he was King, very special to me. Think they cost me 150 quid, worth every penny!

Please write about the balmain's insane prices, is ridiculous. A t-shirt full of holes, $1000, that is...I don't have words. really that makes me hate the brand a little bit, is a little bit to much.
I love your pictures, and I'm so jelous, I wanna do that shoping adventure!
