I bought this dress in Berlin because it reminded my of Prada lace designs and of sexy 50s secretaries; but I never wear it. Don't get me wrong, I love the outfits in Mad Men just as anyone, but when it comes to myself a proper knee length dress like this just makes me feel totally overdressed. The last time I wore it I picked up a tennis ball and threw it to my coach which made the old, delicate lace rip. (It took me hours to fix it.)
Although when I look at these pictures I’m thinking maybe not all is lost. I guess what it needs is some kick-ass boots and a black belt with lots of metal - Plus standing in the bathtub and looking black and white.
How would you style a dress like this?
dress: vintage (integrety casuals), boots: givenchy, belt: 2nd hand

Lace! Is NOT too pretty for you.It suits everybody, depending on we wear it.With the boots and the belt you did it well. Now it suits you too.:) I like it.And that light...
That bath-tub shot is sublime, and lace is not too "pretty" for you, dear! Lace is not pretty - Lace is feminine - And you are all woman, right? I would marry it with a nice hat and perhaps gloves if I'm wearing the dress to tea or Sunday brunch. Opposites attract - lace dress with boots goes well, too, but am not too keen on the belt, though, but that's just me.
Since your hair is bright and red why not take a picture showing the contrast of red hair against white/cream lace with a splash of something green?:-)
Joker - Thank you!
FA&oF - Great tips, which I will keep in mind. So, next time it will be gloves and a nice hat (oh dear, I need to get these things first).
You look awesome in lace! I really think it's the other way around- you're too pretty for lace.
By the way, I love that this post contains tennis. I hope your arm gets feeling better soon.
i beg to differ, YOU are too pretty for lace, doll :) i love how you teamed it with a gorgeous belt and killer shoes! have a wonderful weekend ♥
I would style it as you did or with sandals! Perhpas with a pair of pumps too. Hmm It could be styled in many ways whenI think of it...!
Lace is definitely not "too" pretty for you! But I do like how you made it edgy with the boots & belt! A surprisingly great combo!
Dancing Branflake - Thank you! Yes, it's not too bad. I've tuned the tennis down a bit. Also my coach said more whole body movements, less arm only - so I'm practising that.
great look...fabulous dress...amazing boots
WOW, AMAZING!!
Lace and leather is always a winning combination! ;)
Sabine you styled it PERFECTLY sweetie! I love how you toughened it up. That's exactly how I would wear it. You're amazing :)
Have a wonderful weekend, love! xoxo
[gasp!!!!] Gorgeous Woman!! You simply must wear this!! I LOVE this! really love lace when it's not worn 'delicately'!! This is perfect styling!
You look STUNNING!!!...and damn sexy... even though we can't see your face, these images ooze Charlotte Rampling style sexiness!! All cool and edgy and elegant and dangerous!
No, you're too pretty for lace! :P
Gorgeous shots as usual. Loving the unusual combination with the boots :)
WELL....I think it looks super beautiful on you!!!
this is a fabulous lace piece !

that is a gorge lace piece, so summery

The dress is really fab for summer, and I love your styling of it. I've got a pair of camel colored suede boots with cowboy style heels - if I had a similar dress I might have tried that combo to see how it looked, and maybe also a jeans vest or jacket.
How gorgeous!
♥
fabulous dress!!!!
Lace is not too pretty for anyone - you included. You look phenomenal, Sabine. And the buckled boots are the perfect balance to add a little masculinity to lace!! :)
you're totally on the right track. opposites attract (or atleast make things very interesting!) will love to see where this goes.
I would definitely style it with leather as well. Something to give it a rock edge. Lace is something I hardly wear because white lace is a little too charming and black lace reminds me too much of my goth phase in high school...
I liked the way you styled it! I adored all the details and how stunning these white lacy looked against the black!
I would style it EXACTLY like you did! It's the only way to go, the boots make it. Definitely wear it, it looks fab.
I know how you feel, Sabine, I have a vintage green lace dress that I have to work really hard at not to look too ladylike, 'cos I ain't no lady!
You've got it so right, ankle boots and a rock chick belt taking it from "lady who lunches" to "lady who raunches".
Fabulous, my dear!

It's perfect !
Right now I'm trying to track down a lace jacket that is made from cotton and silk rather than nylon or polyester. You wouldn't believe how tricky it's proving to be....
Have a lovely weekend
The lace dress is very feminine and beautiful. And I really love how you match it with funky boots! Kinda cool. You've got style girl!
really like lace, i'll leave the styling to you! but it looks lovely on you. is it true white or cream?
thanks for the feedback on the painting, i'm looking forward to doing more soon, i won't plan them, just see what happens. and that was the only okish picture of me! enjoy your weekend.
lace is tricky. real tricky. especially white lace. then again, black lace is so stevie nicks, that it can be tricky too.
but i think you were smart to rough it up with the shoes and belt. too girlie is usually a no-no in my book.
i am not making any sense! sorry about that! and i hope you have a great weekend!
i love how you styled it! soft lace with an edgy belt and booties..LOVE

That dress is so awesome! You should wear it more often!!!
I love the way you styled it! It looks AWESOME on you. You should wear it all the time, it's beautiful!
Such a pretty dress, love it with the boots and the belt!
Carmen.xx.
Oh I just love all that lace!! Hmm...to dress it up I might laye a few pieces over it. Like a solid colored sweater, a thick belt.. otherwise, if you're not wearing it often, perhaps it's time to think about modifying it? You could always make it shorter, of conversly, you could even turn the top half into a petticoat of sorts and keep the bottom as a skirt.
Anyways, your photos are lovely. I wouldn't give it up just yet :)
Ha I would wear it in the girliest way possible by throwing in some light blue ribbon around the waist and some sort of cheerful pumps. But I love the way you styled it! Your boots and belt definitely dress it down!
I love how you styled it with the black boots (LOVE those!) and the belt - perfect!
lace and leather, very sexy lol
p.s: im sure you can pull off any look
