B or B? The Eternal Question

Psynopsis Missoni Bathing Suit
Bikini or a bathing suit? Which one does it for you when it comes to lounging at the pool? Personally I like bikinis and my favourite is a green leopard print one. Since I buy swimwear about once every 10 years and just keep wearing my stuff until the elastic unravels my annual coming-out is accompanied by Sarah moaning: 'Muuum, are you still wearing this bikini?!? It's soooooo embarrassing! You've got a face on your bottom and eyes on you nipples.' (I will have to write about the question of age appropriate dressing at some other time…)

I don't want to spoil your day, and I do draw a line at showing myself in swimwear in virtual spaces (I might one day actually need to apply for a job) – but I thought Harriet looked wonderful in my (nearly vintage, naturally) Missoni bathing suit – and the straw hat looks better on her than on me, too. Dang.

i love a two piece but i maybe go swimming once every two years so it doesn't matter, i guess i'm not a fun in the sun kind of girl

Roo Paprika said...

Hmmm, depends on the situation, ideally I'd need a wetsuit...

Unfortunately most good looking swimming costumes are not practical for actually swimming in, but for posing purposes the dream piece is a 50s style two piece, all highwaists and halternecks

Hi my dear-this Missoni suit is gorgeous!! Hope you are well and having a good week! x

She does look fantastic in you nearly vintage bathing suit. I didnt go on holiday this year but if I did I was in dire need of a new bikini too :-). Xxxx

She looks incredible in that one piece Missoni suit!! At this juncture, I'm a bathing suit girl, but only because I do not have the body to complement it just yet! But trust me, if I could pull off a sexy thong bikini (a la Brazilian style), I'd so hop on that bandwagon! You (or your friend) on the other hand can totally work a two piece!

BTW - Can't wait to see your new camera bag!! I'm on the hunt for a new one ASAP. I like the one I posted, but it would be nicer if it were real leather....but my little brother doesn't have to know that ;o)

I like lounging in a bikini poolside, but for a serious swim I have a sporty suit!

haha, lovely swimsuit!

bikini's are my go-to, but I think one-pieces are super sexy because it doesn't look like you're trying. I wore mine today actually to complete a grand total of 4 laps! But I do feel oddly sexy in it...

She looks wonderful. Love that suit.

Unfortunately I am not able to view the images. I tired from both my browsers. I wonder what is wrong. Sorry! Will come back later and check what 'sexy' swim wear are you talking about! :P

Fashion, Art and other fancies said...

I wear both - when lounging at the pool at the house I wear a full swimwear. When elsewhere it's a bikini;-)

Having browser viewing issues as well! Will check back later!

Ohh, I'm so sorry. I checked on 2 computers and the pictures come up fine for me, but will check the coding. Might be a silly question to ask, but did you try clicking on 'show picture'? (dah!? okay, sorry)

... it's 'duh', isn't it? Argh, English!

Vintage Vixen said...

Harriet looks gorgeous in your swimsuit, Sabine but I bet you look equally gorgeous. I'm with you and favour bikinis especially the traditional triangle type with tie sides. I even swim in the town centre baths in a two piece, shameless hussy. xxx

Dancing Branflake said...

I am all about the on piece! I think being covered up is so classy as is the style of one pieces.

Is Harriet your daughter? She looks gorgeous! What a great swimsuit!

Also, PLEASE show us the "embarrassing" bikini - even if you're not modelling it. I must see this bottom-face and nipple-eyes!

She does, doesn't she? (the legs! bah, it's not fair!) No, Harriet is not my daughter, but she is my daughter Sarah's friend. I'm very lucky that I'm surrounded by many pretty girls who volunteer for the camera.
I'm thinking of taking a picture of the naughty bikini without having to put it on...

incredible detailing...

don't have any swimsuits actually. i wear bikinis regularly in the summer in replacement of bras simply because they're more breathable... haha

Oh! I can finally see. Weird technology :) Gorgeous swim suit. And What fab legs! I had bought swim suit in the beginning of the summer but have only worn them once so far. Haven't been on a vacation or to the beach this summer. Meh! Suddenly my sumer is not looking that bright ... thought I did do a lot! Haha :)

I would say bikini and then I have enjoyed wearing the cut out but you have to be careful with the tan lines. Your Misonni one is gorgeous and looks stunning on her beautiful pictures too xoxo

Kazuko said...

your pictures are amazing. and yes - she looks adorable in your bathing suit (but the bathing suit itself is very sexy, too). in general i think a bikini is easier to wear (easier to look good or at least ok in).

drollgirl said...

this bathing suit is rad! as are your photographs!

my bikini days are long gone. i was recently upending my entire apartment trying to find my bathing suit. the last time i wore it was about 7 years ago in mexico! bah! i never did find it and was finally forced to get a new one!

i definitely prefer a bikini... but in large proportions, not scimpy

Oh as soon as I saw that first photo I was like is that a Missoni suit??? It's just gorgeous and she looks fabulous in it. I'm sure you would too though, sweetie.

As for me I'm a bikini girl but should definitely consider a one-piece :)

xoxo

lovely! i wear bikinis on holiday but if i had a swimsuit that looked like this instead of a black adidas number, i would def go for a one-piece! xx

Marinka said...

haha I love this post it made me laugh, it happens to me also because I hate throwing out my bathing suit, but I can't make up my mind on which I like the most ...but I have to say that your missoni bathing suit is awesome!! I love it!

Adele said...

I don't know who Harriet is but she looks stunning in that swimsuit that I absolutely love! I don't see many swimsuits I love and I hate the ones with gaps... you know the half bikini half swimsuit ones! But this one is beautiful :)

I also wait until the elastic wears out before I get a new suit- I am a bikini lady- always have been, makes for better tan lines.

Nice to meet you!

Daphne said...

Her legs!!!! Wow. That bathing suit is perfect. The neckline!! WOW! I tend to only wear bikinis because the idea that a bathing suit is more flattering doesn't work for me. Neither covers my parts that are imperfect (thighs) and a bathing suit actually COVERS a lot of my good parts (stomach, back)! So in the end, I look better in a bikini! hah. Backwards!
However, if I had that missoni I would DEFINITELY wear it!

love missoni first of all... so I like both bikini's and one piece bathing suits. last year I bought a Juicy couture one piece and love it esp on the days I feel fat!

suit is so much classier! I love!

rossovelvet said...

Oh god, the Missoni is DEVINE!!! -.-'

It would make me opt for the first B... but then I do love bikinis as well, I can never choose...
I have a great vintage bathing suit from my mum, which I always end up to use in the end, so I'd say bathing suit to properly bath and bikini to tan and chill by the pool ;)

And thank you so much for your comment, Saint Martins short courses are awesome, you should consider doing that!! (styling is better than design, I can also guarantee that for you!!)

Ioana Liliana Gheorghe said...

That is a beautiful bathing suit, which I'm sure would have looked just as good on you. But thanks for sharing, it has the most amazing earthy colors!

Haha, I do the same thing! I buy new bikinis but keep the old ones. I still have some from high school! I don't have any one piece bathing suits though. I thought about buying one last year for surfing so that things stay in place if you know what I mean. But I tried on a few and didn't really like them on me.

Stunning. Just stunning.

I'm traditionally a bikini girl but after putting on a little weight and cultivating a pot belly (thanks, carbs...) I've switched to swimsuits. And I must say - they're so much less hassle than bikinis!

Personally? B: BOTH.

My friend Hedvig has just - after great demand from her friends - started a lovely blog, and she did a post on swimsuits, too:

http://the-northernlight.com/?p=75

Like her, my priority is volume - I need many swimsuits, and I love alternating bikinis with tanks, preferably the plainest black with a low back (almost impossible to find these days). This way eventually I get almost an even tan. Because I live in the water on holiday - I love to swim - I know that chlorine especially just eats swimsuits. So, like Hedvig, I've learned that it just doesn't pay to get something expensive, as no one has yet invented a material that will stand up to chlorine, sun, sea.

That said, your Missoni suit is gorgeous. And I love the shots. Funny that you won't post shots of yourself in a swimsuit, my 25 year old friend Jen posed that exact question, which is why, as a woman of a certain age, I've chosen to bite the bullet and show the world what old women look like in swimsuits. But I respect your choice not to.

Sorry so long again - and thank you for your lovely, lovely comment. I do feel better, thanks to generous souls like you. xo

Harriet look stunning - oh to be that young again!

I wear a boring black Speedo swimsuit for going to the pool here and then the smallest string bikinis on the beach abroad (where no one knows me!). xx
