Get the Halston Look

Okay, back to the new dress. I always loved Halston's super simple, slinky jersey dresses, especially the 'original' ones, designed by Roy Halston Frowick himself and worn by Bianca Jagger, Liza Minelli and the whole Studio 54 jet set. So naturally I was really exited when Topshop started to offer flowing maxi skirts and dresses – just to realise that I found them impossible to wear because the fabric and cut added bulbs and rolls I didn't even know existed on my body. 'Oh dear, they make me look like a big, fat caterpillar. Better stay away!’… that was, until I saw this dress. It's not so tight, but still falls nicely. And although it's the simplest of cuts, I think the hood and thumbs holes are a nice touch. Studio 54, here I come!

jacket: miu miu, bag: volker lang, dress: h&m

I love it on you! The thumb holes are a genius bit of tailoring, ideal for the autumnal nip in the air. Can't believe anything on earth would give your fabulous physique any lumps and bumps, my dear Sabine. xxx

Oh, thank you Vix! I'm normally not very sensitive to this issue, but these were depressing moments in a changing room. Bah, blame the lighting!

It looks gorgeous on you! I hate it when you get a dress that decides to highlight every lump and bump so this was a good find..

Amazing shape :)

Loving this dress! I'm also getting a slight Rick Owens vibe from it. Huge fan of the simple (i.e. non-patterned) maxi dresses as well.

P.S. I'll be in London again this Thursday/Friday. If you have time, I'd love to meet up again :)

I love Halston dresses! And this Halston-inspired gem of a dress looks great on you (I don't see any bulges and rolls, and I don't believe they exist on you at ALL!)

I am not sure I believe the part about bulbs and rolls sweety but I know I love this dress. Must be the nicest outfit I've ever seen on you. (hmm but I still favour that dress from Acne as well, will never forget how stunning you looked) But geez, you made me want to go after that dress. It's drama and magic all over it.

Oh lovely, lovely, lovely! Love the jacket layered over it, and of course with the satchel.

I find that too I get a little self-conscious from the all-too apparent bumps showing when i wear a jersey maxi dress!

Clear example of less is more. Femininity is not about the cleavage but how a dress falls down a body and what contour it makes. Everchanging yet still classic.

How very mysterious! I'm loving the addition of the blazer and satchel, I have to admit. You always have the quirkiest yet coolest little numbers :)

Incredible cut! It drapes perfectly on your body. I guess that was the genius of Halston. HE understood fabric movement and behaviour on a body. This dress is a good example of that.
Love the bag and jacket too.

I have found it hard to get into the maxi dress trend - every one I have tried has been as you describe, unflattering on making all kinds of unknown bumps suddenly visible!

This one looks great on you though x
