LFW | The Personal Fallout

What I learned at fashion week…

1. I want to be 23 again. Seriously? Nah*, but perhaps instead of studying history, just to realise that I’d rather do Italian studies (because didn’t I want to do art history in the first place?), but then deciding that North and Latin American studies would be even better, I’d now be focussed and strive to become a photographer… or a journalist… or wait!, maybe a stylist… or a designer??? Okay, obviously no change here.

2. I really need to learn to pose! You’d think I should know how to do this by now, but as soon as someone aims a camera at me I get all wooden, want to hide and a stare into the lens with a terrified gleam in my eyes.

3. It’s so much fun to meet other bloggers! So many cool people… Amazing how a common activity can connect you.

4. Have to book an appointment at the hairdressers to sort out my fringe!! What’s wrong with it?!? It looks like it’s got a life of its own. Maybe I need to stop cutting it with nail scissors?

So I've made an appointment with the hairdresser, bought the most expensive anti-wrinkle cream I could afford (just loved it when - after having waited in a long queue with many other women, all grasping the new super lotion that’s supposed to match laser treatment - the shop assistant at the Clinique counter bent over to me to whisper in my ear: "You are going to love this!". I beamed back at her: 'I know I will! Hope dies last!'). Plus a few extra hours of sleep… Soon to appear: The New Me.

*Don’t worry, I’m not going into the whole age issue again. It’s so boooring.

P. S. Before I forget... This was one of the outfits I wore to fashion week. I had to 'celinify' the old leather skirt a bit.

leather skirt: diy, blouse: marc aurel, cardigan: from mum, shoes: bally, bag: diy, scarf: inherited from my grandma

Oh fabulous, we get to see the beautiful Sabine again!
Dodgy fringe, lack of posing ability? Getaway with you. You're fabulous, my dear.
I love that skirt on you, your legs are the best. xxx

SabinePsynopsis said...

Oh thank you, Vix! Could it be the chasing around the tennis court that helps?

Tanvi said...

Good to see you again! That skirt is amazing. Love the zipper details. .... and I am absolutely with you about the posing thing. I get absolutely frozen and do not know what to do with myself!

Name of lotion please?....:) (no, seriously!)

Those are a CRACKING pair of legs for a forty-year-old! I want them!

ha ace, well i'd like to be 23 again but i'm only 25. i cannot pose to save myself, it just doesn't work for me. so maybe it really is best to go with the flow and give a great big grin. i reckon we will see you there next season!

YOU ARE SO FUNNY! this post made me laugh. probably because i can relate to it!!!

I love this outfit! And that cardi is too cute! Seriously, you are beautiful as you are but I am a total advocate on spending time and money on yourself to five you the confidence you need to feel that for yourself. And seriously, you should become a writer.

Yay - good to see pics of you back on the site. Oooh, LFW - in some ways I felt really good in myself during/after it down to meeting lovely people (like yourself) and experiencing something new and exciting. But in some ways I came away from it feeling not so good about myself - feeling sooooo old compared to a lot of the bloggers. Never before have I scrutinised my wrinkes in the mirror to such an extent! If you can recommend a face cream, that'd be great because I'm not very clued up on all that stuff. xx

You?? Learn how to POSE?! No, not the graceful, flawless Sabine we all know and love!! WEll I think you are superb, wrinkle cream or not. You are a stunner.

Its so hard to decide what to do with your life.
Like that John Lennon quote about life happening when you're making other plans.
p.s. I love the silky, slinky blouse you're wearing in the pic.

Dusk said...

Okayyyyyy. I think you're having a downer week because... huh??? your poses are striking :), your fringe is fine and you're thinking hope dies last?????

...an age issue never bores me... particularly because this is one thing we cannot change at all. I truly do believe I am getting better as I get older, I loved my youth but don't pine for it... albeit I cannot do the acrobatic things I could do!

You look amazing. Your legs are just... amazing. That "old leather skirt" is fabYOUlous!

ps. this is the 2nd time recently my stance or opinion has been cited and commented upon by other bloggers! First my No Comments stance and then my 'Blog is about the Blogger' opinion. I'm being attacked!!!! hahahahahahaha!!!

Dusk said...

pps. I am on average 20 years older than the others in my acropole and dance classes and 5-20 years older than my Flamenco co-dancers. I don't feel any different. In some cases I am less mature!!!!!!

Also... now you are a photographer and journalist and stylist and modification designer... and please share your art history knowledge with us... pick a painting, any painting, tell us about it and match an outfit!

I can't wait to start meeting other bloggers! Even the thought is exciting! :)

Love Grace.

Indeed, the lady has great legs and she is in very good shape, too.
What a lovely leather skirt - and I love the idea of scarf on bag in the wind.

As for wanting to be 20 - no, thank you! I have done that and now it's another life stage. One must embrace the different stages of life like one does the seasons.

But I do help nature along by using an anti-wrinkle cream: La Prairie Complex Anti-Age/Wrinkle.
Ideal for me - as I've no longer 37!

I also agree with the lovely Vix and the beautiful Dusk on their views above. Whilst I have yet to meet bloggers in person. I intend to meet some at the Paris Fashion Week ( If my job allows a day or two for fashion ).

Happy Friday, swweetie, and look after yourself;-)

Thank you, Ching. There is a big difference between taking pictures yourself with remote control or having your picture taking by someone else, I find.

'celinify'...hihih....that's just made me grin, Missy! :)

SabinePsynopsis said...

That's a great expression, isn't it? Sadly it's not me who came up with it, but Sarah Mower from style.com. Another one is 'Phoebe Philism'...

I'm sure the new you is going to be just as FAB as the old you! If I could be 23 again, I would do many things differently too! Like not take this current job...I would've ran far, far away!

Fashionistable said...

It is lovely to see you in your posts again. We all live in hope the creams will work and then you read articles by plastic surgeons who say don't kid yourself, they don't work. Mind you I would hate to look plastic. So Mmmmmmm. Just have to live in hope I guess. Xxxx

I love the skirt, so pretty on you!

I would like to propose an exchange: you give me a few years, and I'll take some of yours, and everyone is happy :P

Seriously though, I'm super glad you aren't 23, since I bet you wouldn't be nearly as interesting if you were. Not to say that you must have been boring then, but you are so awesome now.

I love your outfit! And the scarf on the purse is a great touch. I always forget to do that! I love that look.

I think I need to learn how to pose too! And sometimes I wish I could go back in time and do something different, but I think I'm happy with what I've chosen for myself.

Loving your outfit by the way x

Fab skirt and fringes do get a life of their own at times. Usually you need to have a heavier cut. you look lovely no need for comparisons and we all look back and think if only..hindsight is a great leveller!

I'm giggling! I think we may be living parallel lives ;)
I have no real focus, wanting to be abit of everything, need a haircut, freeze and stiffen at anyone with a camera (unless it's just me with my trusty tripod) and am noticing new worry lines daily...Bah! Life!
i'm not sure i'f like to be 23 again, but i'd at leat like to look like it!!
