The Cinderella Complex

Psynopsis Streetstyle London Vintage Jean Patou Studded Skirt Mango Leather Jacket Givenchy Boots
The other day my weird and wonderful friend Sophie suggested I should write a post about which shoe I’d marry. Got me thinking… Like with men you can only realistically consider the ones you have access to (= the closet). Also 'marrying material' surely needs to have different characteristics than 'lover material' and while a lover may be handsome and impractical, wonderful for the occasion, but probably not compatible for every-day living, a husband, i.e. the shoe I want to marry, needs to have it all: endurance, elegance, timelessness, reliability – and most of all he, sorry it, mustn't hurt. And while there is a lot of lover material in my wardrobe (gee, this is getting silly, if not embarassing, I'm nearly finished), the shoe I'd want to marry must be my Givenchy boots.
Psynopsis Givenchy Boots

Blame my slightly incoherent writing on rambling through London with Sarah the whole day which brought us face to face with a tube strike (the 'underground' or 'subway' for the non-British), collapsing from exhaustion in Topshop, being styled and photographed for the Liberty London Facebook site (I'll post the link as soon as we're up) and having a little chat with Jonathan Saunders who's like the nicest person one could imagine. Gotta catch up on Gossip Girl sleep now, more tomorrow. Besitos!

boots: givenchy, skirt: jean patou vintage, tights: wolford, leather jacket: mango

Thank you, Sarah, for taking my picture.

Can I come to the Givenchy wedding? I'd wear my imaginary Prince Charming Louboutins.

You are hilarious and inspiring at the same time! And you're on Facebook? How are we not friends yet?

SabinePsynopsis said...

Oh yes, and then your shiny Louboutins and my old, tattered Givenchys are allowed to have a little dance! Sure I'm on Facebook, Tiffany. I don't use it for my blog, but let's befriend :)

Fab shoes! I have no idea which footwear I'd marry. Ideallly it would one of my heels (including another wonderful pair of Givenchys), but realistically it might have to be my trusted biker boots. Or can I choose the strappy silver Chloe's, since those are actually the shoes I got married in? ;-)

Haute World - Romantic memories surely must be considered. But you have so many choices, I think you need to become a bigamist.

Janet - It's actually metal studs. I really need to take a better picture of this skirt to show you.

Nooo I really can't answer that.
Because I haven't find my perfect shoes, and because I'm sure that I'll married with lots of them.
BTW. I invited myself to your givenchy weeding :)

What a great pick for a shoe husband. I love how much thought you put into it, too!

I have also invited myself to the Givenchy wedding. It will be grand!

I will marry my favorite pair of Roberto del Carlo boots, I have worn them for 4 winters now, comfortable although high heeled, and sturdy yet elegant. Marrying your footwear is a really brilliant plan, I am so done with this single crap. :-)

oh nooos, think i'm already married to a couple of havaianas. it wasn't love marriage though - they were there at the right time, it was so confident. had some affairs with other shoes though, and every time i get to see them again, i feel still feel the butterflies in my stomach. but i know it wouldn't last forever.

love love love your style of writing! you really make me laugh. and: good choice - i think your givenchy boots and you are a really good match!

Don't forget to send me an invitation for the wedding =)

If I were to marry one of my shoes, I think I'd be a widow =( because my favorite pair were black boots I wore to exhaustion, the poor things started giving up last winter =(

hehehe, have a lovely Thursday!

I think I'd have to be a Polygamist, I couldn't choose between shoes, it wouldn't be fair.
I adore those boots and get you being papped by the style hunters, no surprise really. xxx

Those boots are perfect marriage material...stylish, yet comfy! I've yet to find a pair of shoes I would marry. My feet are fussy and eventually find a sore point with most shoes, except perhaps my UGG boots...but who wants to marry the UGGly shoe??

Sabine!! I just figured out why we can't ever meet: I think we're actually the same person. If we were in the same place at the same time, the universe would implode.

The way you wrote that part about 'I'm nearly finished' - it's not just that we have the same voice, I think we might actually have the same head.

I have no way of knowing for sure, but I think that it's possible - thanks to the Tube Strike and meeting Shini @ Leila's Cafe an hour late - that I arrived a minute after you left. We'll never know for sure, will we?

re: the type of shoes you'd marry verse the type you'd have an affair with, I'm the wrong person to ask, as I actually married the kind of man that one's mother would advise against. I married the kind you'd have a one night stand with.

Actually: while I don't know which shoes I'd marry - probably my white Haviaiana flip flops - I do know at least one pair of shoes I'd have a one night stand with: a pair of Topshop 'vague' coloured suede ridiculously high platform sandals. Impossible to wear - only wore them once - but who knows, I might have a fling with them from time to time. I'm certainly not throwing them away. But definitely not marriage material.

We really should try to meet, if for no other reason than to see if it's humanly possible. xox

None of the shoes I have deserve me. What does that mean? Only one thing: I must find a pair that does!

god I love this idea! I don't know which shoe of mine I would marry.. it's a tough choice picking just one!

Fucking great parable!
And Jonathan Saunders? Oh wow, I love him! Lucky you my dear ;)
if you happen to plan another visit to Somerset House just tell me!

And I really really enjoyed the 'story'. That's also why I don't want to get married...
