Style | The Things to Come

Psynopsis Pink Jil Sander T-Shirt Vintage Skirt Internationale Damenmoden Johann Strauss Sainsbury's Plastic Bag

Before very soon the whole autumn/winter fashion thing will start again I sat down to do a bit of summer trend brainstorming, and I figured it's really easy: Just wear red + purple, purple + orange, orange + yellow, yellow + blue, blue + green, green + cyan, cyan + purple, purple + orange + red, red + blue + green… and if this isn't colour intensive enough go for fluorescent. To keep this rainbow happiness in balance there is WHITE. Not beige, not camel, not off-white – no, REAL WHITE. In other words… good, old plain white. And, it must be a recession thing… DIY is a big trend too. Crochet, fringing, knitting or weaving... No matter if you buy it or do-it-yourself, you'll be hip. Lots of 70s/ early 80s influences, which come with loads of satin, sheer and lurexy fabrics (I really, really want a lurex sweater. Nearly bought an Isabel Marant lurex dress in the sales, but when I stepped out of the changing room, just to find myself next to a girl checking herself in the mirror wearing exactly the same dress I couldn't do it. – And yes, she looked much better in the dress than I did).

Personal favourites? ¾ length skirts, flared trousers and maxi skirts worn with t-shirts. I've also totally fallen for the Jil Sander 'plastic bag' look (mine's from Sainsbury's; so much for personal recession decisions). But you won't see me in ruffles, florals or big prints (no fruits, thank you. Animals? Maybe).

What about you? Any favourite looks?

Great outfit, I love the colour scene and the background setting is simply stunning! No idea what I'll be wearing come the warmer month, but I like the idea of colour and the whole anti fit look. Flowers are cute but are done every year so maybe it's time for me to experiment a bit more!!

Love this post! I am TERRIBLE at color coordinating. It's something I really struggle with so any tips would be awesome.

I'd really like a white T-shirt as I don't have one. Needs to be thin cotton, maybe a V-neck or low oval - not classic crew. Any recommendations? xx

I know nothing about trends (fruit?! How on earth can fruit be a trend?) but I have vowed to attempt to wear more colour and be braver with mixing pattern.

The sainsbury bag comment truly made me chortle out loud.

Rachel - You'll see, come spring the whole high street will be full with fruit and animal prints.

Sarah - I once found THE PERFECT white t-shirt at GAP. (It's in shreads now.) I think I'd look at GAP or COS.

you look great as always. my style is quite heritage-like at the mo. quite understated and not as flashy/showy as i used to be. maybe that's just because i have grown into a style that feel comfortable in.

I love your outfit here such a stylish look. It's interesting to read some favourite looks. Mine are always dresses, polka dots and pearls.

I love the light in the first photograph! I think I might pass on Spring summer - I did like the Jil sander plastic bags skirts but I'm way too short for that sort of thing. I always buy more in Winter because I never get use out of summer gear - still have plenty of unworn summer dresses to turn to next season so I'm promising myself I do that instead of shop. Isabel Marant hey? - was that the silver one with the frill?

SabinePsynopsis said...

Yeap, it was silber-blue stripes. Can't remember if there was a frill. It also was very see-through (even more than the t-shirt in this picture). Not easy in summer, unless you wear a slip dress underneath...

I have yet to check out anything SS11. I guess it's all part of the FW10 sale madness which still has me checking out jackets and boots, though I did buy some summer flats in Paris this week. I will let you know what I like once I've gone through my back issues of Vogue and Elle ;-)

Kazuko said...

hmmm, good question. i keep on changing my favourites every day. but i'll definitely wear a lot of denim this summer. but, erm, don't i always wear a lot of denim anyways?

am in love with SS11 jil sander and proenza schouler.

hmmm, will see, will see...

love your outfit! was a little irritated by the bag though, before i read the text. hahaha, sabine - you're amazing!

You are putting the fear of god (or whoever) in me! I'm not quite ready for SS yet...I'm hanging onto my blacks right now. Ok, i'll have to be brave and I can maybe muster up some orange ( probably with black or camel however) but I can do the plastic bag thing...you've managed to make it look very chic...is it a revolt against the eco bag trend a few years back I wonder?

I agree with your color theory! I'm looking forward to wearing more BRIGHTS!

Ashley said...

I can't DIY to save my life, and it makes me sad. I'm hoping to wear a lot of white this spring and summer, along with some flourescents, too. I was really inspired by Urban Outfitter's most recent lookbook/catalogue...very 70's, which isn't usually my thing, but I'm sure I can find a way to incorporate those pieces this upcoming season.

I kinda remembering hearing about the plastic bag thing. I'm not so sure about it personally, but I do like the colors of yours!

In response to your comment: it seems like there's always snow here, yes! It came really early this year--October/November--and typically leaves in April. Too many months of winter for my liking, but what can you do?

LOVING your brainstorming.
For me it's going to be, again, grey + black, grey + grey + grey + grey, grey + day-glow (<3), black + day-glow.
