Style | Fashion Weeks – It’s a Wrap

Psynopsis Zara Coat Pachacuti Hat Wolford Tights
If you followed fashion weeks (if you didn't you probably couldn't care less – though never forget Miranda Priestley's words about how cerulean 'filtered down' into the high street…) do you also feel confused and overwhelmed by shapes and colours and cuts and sparkles and whatsnot? In times of confusion I resort to making lists; since lists give me hope that there might be sense and logic and structure in all this chaos.

So here is my (totally subjective) comprehensive list on autumn/winter 11/12:
- Knee-high boots will be back (especially slouchy, 70s style ones; reminding me of the ones my mum used to have: latte-coffee coloured, softest leather, sturdy heel… All my childhood I was willing my feet to grow big enough to fit into them, but they never managed. So in the end I think my sister snapped them up.)
- Pointy shoes! (Now why did I sent these back again?)
- Clerical purple. What I really liked about the collections was that the whole colour blocking continued, but on a much more subtle level. The master of it all must have been Haider Ackermann, but Marni's colour combinations were quite magical, too.
- Every shade of blue (be it turquoise, midnight, cerulean, lapis…) is totally IT.
- Polka dots (mmmhh…)
- Long, lean coats
- Turtle necks under everything
- and… thanks to Karl Lagerfeld the skinny is not dead. No, it's alive and kicking and I adore Karl for taking all these street style cues and incorporating them into a collection.
- Aahh, and shoulders… round. Widthwise they can be anything – from 3 Arnie Schwarzeneggers to the slimmest 30s cuts. Do as you like – which in my mind is always the best advise when it comes to dressing.

What did I not see: 50s influences and flats (phew!). So, what do you say… Are you ready for pointy knee-high boots, 80s blazers, blue and purple polka dots and channeling your inner existentialist?

Even though this space is devoted to pure escapism and unhinged frivolity I'm finding it impossible not to say that my thoughts and hopes are with the people of Japan and Libya. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. Muah, muah!

shoes: jil sander, tights: wolford, coat: zara, fedora: pachacuti

Are you ready for pointy knee-high boots, 80s blazers, blue and purple polka dots? No! I like these as little as I like 50's fashion and flats. At least the 1970's block heeled boots, clerical purple and all shades of blue meet with my approval or I'd be cast out in the fashion wilderness again! xxx

I read and watch everything with a pinch of salt, and then do what I want hehehe.
Enjoy your weekend Sabine.

Just as we are leaving winter behind it is good to know what is ahead. My thoughts are with the Japanese especially today. Xxxx

Tell me tell me tell me about stripes. Are they still in? They seem so overblown that I'm a little over them now. Your thoughts?

sounds great, i'm looking forward to it

Dancing Branflakes - Oh dear, stripes? You've caught me out here. Somehow they didn't register with me. Perhaps that means there weren't any?

Great picture! And I know - we're so blessed, and in our home are praying for blessings for the Japanese.

turtle necks under everything - well thank god for that! The best way of avoiding freezing is allowed to be fashionable.

Sabine, the hat in the picture is gorgeous - the colors are so vibrant especially in combination with blue tights. Well, you left out one more point - jeweled toned felt fedoras are everywhere for the next Fall!:-) In the most vibrant pallet you can only imagine.:-)
I am wishing you wonderful weekend!:-)

An excellent summary of what is coming up! I am very excited for the polkadots and topshopesque 101dalmations style prints. Not so sure about pointy shoes tho, reminds me too much of what I wore at school!

I love this photo! I think I need a bright red hat now! So gorgeous! Good-bye fashion week, we'll miss you :)

First, Sabine, I love love love this photo: the colours are so rich and subtle - is this you? Is this your hat? - it's like a Rembrandt.

These are interesting tips/predictions: yes I'm relieved to see not so much 50s either as I can't wear that shape. Funnily, what you're describing.. a lot of it I already have/wear. I have one pair of boots in particular that I love.. knee high, chunky heel, lace up brown suede.. very 70s.

I'm not ready to totally let go of fashion week photos yet, I think I'll be posting on them in weeks to come.. in between real life, of course. But I'm glad to think that I'll finally be able to bring my long black Calvin Klein maxi coat from my mom's winter home in Florida.. she's been threatening to give it away and I keep asking her to hold onto it 'just in case'.

It's funny: I was just about to do a post on blue, and your comment (via Miranda Priestly) on cerulean.

And I love the simple way you brought it back to what's on all our minds (well, most of us: some are truly only thinking about fashion): Japan and Libya. Thank god the tsunami didn't gain power on other countries' shorelines.

Sorry so long - it's more like an email - have a lovely weekend Sabine! xox

I like the sounds of all of these trends except skinnies and big round shoulders. I'm already equipped and happy to do most of them anyway...knee-high boots, pointy shoes, warm deep blues, purple, turtleneck, lean coats, and now polka dots...and I'd like to shop for more. I hope you're right on these trend points!

Thank you for this post! I never have enough patience or focus to sit down and sort through all of the fashion week pictures to figure out what exactly will be "in," so this was very helpful! :)

Sabine i want to see you in the red hat, pleeease. I think you would suit it immensely!
I'm not sure about the 80s thing again so soon. Perhaps sheer polka dots, that i could do

I'm totally in especially when it comes to every shade of blue and polkadots, I'm also happy about the flats as I'm super tall and wear them anyway. However I'm not a fan of pointy shoes but I addmit the ones you sent back were beautiful!:)
