When your mum is the queen of cool, clean Scandinavian designs visiting the glassblowing studio is like lying down on Freud's couch… My instinct reactions to all the swirls and colours are: 'Oh, so preeeetty.' But immmediately mum's voice echoes in my ear: 'bad bad KITSCH!'. Oh well, it doesn't really matter because I don't have the spare cash anyway, but these here I do like A LOT (and I think she would, too)...

Nichts gegen deine Mutter, aber ich wäre nicht darauf gekommen, dass das Kitsch sein könnte.

Haha! I think they're quite nice. Not what I'd describe as kitsch, but of course there really is no accounting for taste :)

LOVE them. I could stare at them and their cobwebby patterns for hours. Actually we've a huge old paperweight that reuben's grandad blew bubbles into. I think that's wonderful. His breath still being there long after he's gone.Anyhoo, enough of my rantings!
oh...and gorgeous pics sabine
have a great weekend

Hi my dear-I think they're gorgeous and fabulous pictures too xx

I've been there - it's not too far from where I live actually. I think glassblowing is fascinating and these pieces are beautiful - the colorful ones remind me a lot of the Murano glasses you see all over Venice, so I'd probably pick something from the last set if I had to decorate.

Sabine I'm totally swooning. I have a major weakness for glass blowing. That sounds bad but it's not... :)

um, amazing!!!!!!

there are a bunch of glass shops and studios in benicia, california. my parents have taken me there to visit many times, and it is so fab to see them blowing glass in person. i would be CHICKENSHIT to do what they do. the temperatures are staggering. and what they can make with glass is just so incredible.

side note: this stuff isn't cheap. i bought a pair of earrings once. i think that is all i could afford, and things haven't changed much! lol

These are all very pretty. Have you tried searching some out on eBay? Maybe no bargains to be had there anymore though. xx

Oh these are such beautiful photos, Sabine. Where was this place? (Love the shot with you too).

Funny - I wish my mom was the queen of cool, clean. Actually.. our home - their homes over the years - really always have been pure 'Swedish modern' - it's just their offspring that have cluttered it up. I love the aesthetic of her homes now - part of why I love going home.

But yes: a bit of this kind of 'kitsch' in a minimal clean setting is just fabulous. It's like accessorising a very clean outfit with some 'statement' jewelry.

Sorry such a long comment - haven't been on anyone's blogs for weeks so you're the lucky girl! And I'm using a lot of 'quotes' this morning. Okay I'll shut up now! xox
