I might at times have gotten on my German friends' nerves with my constant outcries of how much I love everything British – the civilized manners, the mild winters, the rain (give me a mild, moist day instead of a crispy, sunny one anytime)… But a few things I never got to grips with: the evasive summers (will it appear this year? maybe tomorrow? maybe next week? Oooh no!, it’s autumn again)… And pubs. So cosy, so stuffy – I never felt the love. It's true, London is full of cafés these days, but you need the lifestyle to go with it… The idea of time. Leisure. A café is all about sitting around and chatting, checking out others, maybe flirting a bit, having another cup of coffee… I've missed this a lot. Pubs or cafés – what warms your heart? ♥ ♥ ♥
Yes, still wearing the same old blouse and sweater; kinda like the combination.

I agree - cafe society requires an enormous amount of leisure time and mellow mood/atmosphere. Adore cafes less keen on pubs.
What a stunning shot! You look gorgeous.
Pubs every time. The Black Country is very traditional so most are of the pork scratchings, real ale, dart boards and dog variety, I love them! x
Thank YOU, Vix! I had a hunch that it might be pubs for you. You can take the girl out of the Black Country, but not... etc. etc. X
Sabine, just managed to peek at your Tumblr. You are one talented photographer;-)
Gorgeous photo, Sabine! And I'm a cafe girl at heart too :) xoxo
Definitely Cafe's. Pubs are so odd to me. You don't have a server really. You sit yourself down and hope someone recognizes you. And it's so loud! I love cafes because I don't feel rushed or stared at.
cafes for me. they make great work, reading, meeting places...I like them because going alone to a cafe is also more of an option than the pub. There is something desperate in going to the pub alone unless you are a long-time regular but even then, pubs are too loud to read or speak to anybody...my love for Berlin had a lot to do with how easy/good and "normal" it was to do things on your own! including long visits to the numerous beautiful cafes popping up everywhere, dinner, theater... C.
beautiful photo! i'm all for cafes, and i terribly miss them and the good coffee/tea, delicious cake and the typical cafe food - little baguettes or salads... never really got the concept of pubs (even though i also looove everything British).
@Anon C - That's so true! Going to a café on your own doesn't feel weird at all. And I used to do a lot of other cultural things by myself without ever feeling uncomfortable... Need to rediscover that.
That has always been a lot of fun for me for both the (somehow better/more possible) highly revelatory introspective explorations as well as the opposite, the different out-going of myself...not that friends stop that, but ...
Enjoy your very thought provoking home town! Which I will miss for ever! C.
Looking great Sabine. Where is the white polka dot/stripe duvet cover from a previous post from? It's lovely. Sorry if it's in there and I've missed it - I'm in dire need of a 6 month overdue eye test for new specs! xx
Ha ha, tell me about it, Sarah! I think I'm constantly squinting these days (as short sighted and far sightedness meet each other). The bed linen is from Achica. They've got great stuff! (at a discount :) xo
YAY! What a lovely shot! Love your mohair sweater, Sabina...Cozy chic!
♥
lovely snap! i think i like cafés, providing they're cosy and have lots of tea on offer...xx
striking image. i've only ever really been in pubs in the UK so i can't comment on what they're like. tricky to find in america though. i love pubs, but it's the people i like more
Oh I am not a pub girl at all. Give me a nice cafe any day. Xxxx
